| Describe your best day riding (at a horse show, at home, on the beach... |
My best day at a show was at the 2005 RI Finals. The horse I had been leasing got hurt right in August and I had nothing to ride at the finals, which was my whole goal for the year. Three days before the finals I found out that some one that keeps her horse at our barn every summer would let me ride her horse. I went there just wanting to get around without embarrassing myself. In the classic, I rode the best round of my life, but what made it the best day ever was when I landed from my last fence, the whole crowd went wild cheering and clapping and screaming. I had hoped to get above a 70, but I ended up with an 82!! I couldn't believe it. The winner of the class got an 83 and I was second! Of course, I tanked in the actual championship class with a huge chip at one fence, but I could have cared less. That classic round was the best round of my life. |

| Tell a story (funny, amazing, special) about a time when you were riding. |
I was at a show one time and they needed some one to fill the adult medal class. I had a very green horse with me that day and couldn't jump him over a 3 foot course, so I said "Sure, if you find me something to ride." I ended up riding a large pony. When I went in the ring I didn't know what to expect and I just wanted to make it around so it would count for the other 3 riders, but as I went around the course I realized I was having a really good round and I thought to myself "Hey, I could actually win this class!" At the very next fence, I got over-confident and really didn't ask him to leave the ground with enough leg, so he put in an extra stride and I got bounced onto the top of his neck. Every body started screaming "Don't fall off!" so I shimmied back down to the saddle while trotting towards the second fence in the line and got over the last fence. It really taught me not to get cocky and to ride every single jump like it's the first jump on the course! |
